Goldfish Illnesses and Goldfish Diseases
Goldfish illnesses are largely preventable through basic aquarium or pond management. Simply keep the water clean, oxygenated and at the correct temperature, and feed your goldfish the correct amount to avoid major problems with goldfish illnesses.
However, goldfish illnesses will occur in the most diligently managed aquariums and ponds from time to time. Fortunately most goldfish owners can easily recognize when something is wrong. When treating any goldfish illnesses, it is nearly always a good idea to put the affected goldfish into a treatment tank. This tank should have no gravel or plants which are breeding grounds for bacteria that can slow down or reverse treatment of goldfish illnesses. As with the normal tank or pond, the water in the treatment tank should be changed regularly.
If left untreated, goldfish illnesses can prove fatal for your goldfish. However, if treated properly and in time, most goldfish will make a full recovery.
